Following Ford’s withdrawal from the World Rally Championship in 1979, David Sutton Motor Sport continued to campaign the 1980 season with new sponsor Rothmans. Sutton’s partnership of Ari Vatanen and David Richards went on to win the 1981 Drivers' championship. David Suttton also built Rothmans Mk2’s for the likes for Malcolm Wilson, Hannu Mikkola and Pentti Airikkala.
Each MST CARS Rothmans Special Edition Mk2 is bespoke and built to order here in North Wales, UK. The build is based on the original Group-4 works cars, featuring alloy tarmac arch shell, 6 linked rear axle and turreted rear coilovers with all the strengthening that a proper rally car requires, including a weld in roll cage. The classic BDG engine is fueled by Jenvey throttle bodies and managed by the latest Life Racing ECU. Cars can be built for fast road & touring with fully trimmed interior or can be supplied as an FIA spec rally car for competition use.
